Current environmental threats related to reduced water flows, water pollution, overdevelopment, shifting habitat, misuse of pesticides among many others, have affected significantly the health of South Florida natural ecosystems. Irrigation of lawns and landscaping in Florida represents the single largest use of water from our municipal water supplies. Only in the Everglades, over 200 native plant and animals species are either threatened or endangered.
